ONI has been our holy grail brand from the very beginning, and we've finally been able to build a relationship with the brand and owner Masao Oishi. The brand is as old school and secretive as it appears. They use traditional construction methods to create low-tension, irregular, slubby denim that has a cult following. Their selvedge tickles the ancient part of our brain that makes us love denim so much. ONI does one thing and they do it to perfection. We can't wait to explore their wonderful world of fabric and fits with you guys.
Every time we think ONI has reached the peak of creativity, they surprise us again—this time with a jacket that redefines slubby texture. Crafted from an exceptionally slubby fabric, this piece features little tufts and offshoots that create a flecked effect throughout. Inspired by the concrete of Japan's roads and sidewalks, Oishi designed this fabric with a loose tension that allows the texture to shine while keeping the jacket lightweight and breathable—ideal for summer wear. Despite its airy construction, the jacket feels as substantial and durable as ONI's heftier offerings. It’s crafted from a refined version of their 20oz Secret Denim, previously known as Asphalt Denim, but thinned out to make this it more versatile. A twist this time? The warp is beige, lending a rich, almost brown hue to the fabric that takes this design to a whole new level. And, as a final touch, it features the striking Kabuki selvedge ticker, adding a distinct look when you reveal the inner placket. Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size 42 in this jacket. In order to fit the roomier look of the pants, he wanted a size larger than he normally wears. As you can see, these don't fit quite as small as you would expect a jacket from a Japanese brand to fit. Oishi-san purposefully gave this a bit of extra length as well for a more modern cut. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs, with a 40" chest.
